ICC CWC 2019: Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka: Pakistan, SL grab a point each as rain washed out the Bristol clash
June 7, 2019
ICC CWC 2019 | Match 11 | Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka | Post-match Analysis
With hail expected in the evening, and the unrelenting rain, the umpires and the officials decided to call off the match after a wait of over five hours given that the outfield and the weather showed no signs of improvement, and were certainly not fit for play. A point each means that Sri Lanka and Pakistan will temporarily attain the 3rd and 4th spots respectively for the time being, but will inevitably be toppled after the double-header on Saturday (June 8).
Karunaratne (SL skipper): We came here to play. Really disappointed as a team and as an individual (with the washout). We won the last game; ended up with a high note. We might have lost some matches, but want to give some fight. Want to compete with the others. We did really well against Afghanistan. If you get a good start, you can keep going with the momentum. If you take the last couple of games, we couldn’t capitalize in the middle order. As a group we’re doing really good.
Sarfaraz (Pak skipper): We wanted to play the match, unfortunately we couldn’t do anything. We’ll take one point before the Australia match. Momentum was very high after the England match. Unfortunately, we didn’t play today. We have a confident side so hopefully we’ll do well against Australia. Every team is scared about Pakistan. Dressing room is very confident after the England match. Australia is a strong team, we have to play stronger than them. Hopefully, we work harder before that match.
"In 1992, Pakistan lost the 1st match, won 2nd and 3rd was washed off...History is repeating itself...Watch out for Pakistan"
The Sri Lankan team will remain in Bristol, set to play Bangladesh on Tuesday (June 11), whereas Pakistan will be on their way to Taunton to play their next encounter against Australia on Wednesday (June 12).
