Match – 32 RR VS KXIP : KINGS XI PUNJAB snaps RAJASTHAN ROYALS to end the losing streak

TOSS: Rajasthan Royals won the toss & have elected to bowl first

Chris Gayle & Kl Rahul comes out to open for KXIP

Kl Rahul must be relieved as he has been selected in the Indian cricket team for the Worldcup 2019

Archer dismisses Gayle

A big wicket for Rajasthan Royals as Gayle was looking in good touch today but he was deceived by a clever off-cutter from Jofra Archer and nicks off behind to give Keeper Sanju Samson a dolly as he goes for 30. Mayank Agarwal comes in. KXIP 38/1

At the end of Powerplay: KXIP 39/1.

Just sit back and enjoy the Agarwal show as he’s creaming boundaries here just the momentum KXIP needed and Kl Rahul needed as well as he was playing so rusty.

Ish Sodhi comes into action as well!

The show comes to an end. Mayank Agarwal was looking in fine touch as he was striking a couple of sixes and a four against the two legspinners – Sodhi and Gopal. But he played one shot too many and gave the New Zealand leggie his first wicket of the season. He goes for 26. David Miller comes in. KXIP 67/2

Is Kl Rahul playing a test match here? That was a joke as he’s seriously been so slow today just 17 off 27 balls. Nonetheless Miller is doing what he always does, “slamming”.

50 runs partnership comes up for David Miller & Kl Rahul as KXIP are 118/2

Cleaned him up!

Oh wait!!!! there’s a No ball call from the Umpire!

Aaaah Jofra Archer what have you done? A perfect delivery to end the David Miller but finds out his foot forward. Such-an-anticlimax!

Fifty for KL Rahul! A different KL Rahul for different season!

It’s been a very very slow start for him today but he makes up for it in the last 2/3 overs. This season has seen a change in KL Rahul’s batting. Unlike last year where he was striking at 158.4, the Kings XI Punjab opener is hitting them at 127.7. His innings today of 52 off 47 balls set the platform alright, but did it cost the hosts the loss of momentum? Only time will tell! KXIP 152/3

Ashwin comes back to the rescue

Ravi Ashwin’s cameo of 17 runs off just 4 balls ensures KXIP went past the 180-mark. The home side lost their way towards the end after the dismissal of KL Rahul, but the skipper smashed Dhawal Kulkarni for a boundary and a couple of sixes to finish the innings on a high. Rajasthan Royals, with a few of changes, need a clinical performance from their batsmen to chase this down.

RR needs 182 runs to win

Surprises, surprises!

Rahul Tripathi is given nod to open alongside Jos Buttler.

Dream debut, Dream wicket!

Arshdeep Singh gets Buttler out for 23. The youngster deceived the Englishman with a clever change of pace and provided the hosts with their first wicket.

Batsmen calm at the other end

Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi made sure Ashwin does not get the opportunity to run them out in his delivery stride as they were watchful while backing up and left the crease only after the ball was released. However, Ashwin did break the 59-run partnership by cleaning up Samson.

Rahul Tripathi gets out just as Kl Rahul’s innings with a similar knock. The opener got off the blocks quickly but lost his momentum in the middle overs and when he was finally dismissed by Ashwin, he had eaten up 45 balls for his fifty.

Binny resurrect the RR

Having played only once before today’s game, Stuart Binny provides Rajasthan Royals with hope when the game seemed lost. The right-hander, having lost most of his partners, keeps his side in the game with his power-hitting. He takes a particular liking to Arshdeep Singh, striking him for two sixes in the 19th over.

KXIP win by 12 runs

Rajasthan Royals lost their way after the 59-run partnership between Tripathi and Samson. Losing Buttler early did not help either. They scored only 48 runs and lost 3 wickets in between overs 10 and 17. Rahane could not get going, Turner went for a first-ball duck on IPL debut and Binny’s cameo late on was not enough to get the visitors over the line.
